Voice Dialogue:
Mapping Out Our Inner World
Voice Dialogue is a therapeutic technique that helps you map out the many different aspects or voices within you, that may often have conflicting desires. Voice dialogue is interactive and experiential and helps you better understand what is happening during your internal self dialogue, leading to greater clarity and a deeper understanding of yourself.
“one of the primary issues in the evolution of consciousness is the discovery of these subpersonalities and how they operate within us.”
― Hal Stone, Embracing Our Selves: The Voice Dialogue Manual
Voice Dialogue is a unique therapeutic approach developed by Dr. Hal and Sidra Stone that invites individuals to explore the diverse aspects of their personality. By engaging with different "voices" or parts of themselves, individuals can uncover insights into their inner conflicts and desires, promoting self-awareness and empowering them to make more conscious choices. This method fosters a deeper understanding of oneself, facilitating personal growth and acceptance.
In a Voice Dialogue session, clients physically map out their various selves, allowing for a dynamic interaction between these parts. This experiential process enhances awareness and provides a broader perspective on how these selves interact, ultimately leading to greater self acceptance and tolerance for others. Most importantly, Voice Dialogue is a playful journey, encouraging individuals to experience themselves from multiple angles and embrace the complexity of their inner world.

A personal breakthrough is achieved when the individual is able to "hold the tension of two opposites," meaning that they are able to see two opposing voices, often in a power struggle, as equally valid. Our sense of wholeness is realized when we can accept all aspects of who we are, even the ones we threw into our "basement" or rejected as unworthy of love. This very unique and personal process leads a person to accept themselves more fully, and access a wider range of who they truly are.
